Turkey has not recalled its ambassadors to Russia and Iran

A number of Armenian media outlets report that Ankara has recalled its ambassadors to Russia and Iran, which, however, is not true.

“The Foreign Ministry of Turkey has recalled its ambassadors to Russia and Iran. With this step, Turkey is protesting against the violation of the neutral zone in Idlib region by the Syrian Army”, armtimes.com writes, referring to the Turkish Daily Sabah newspaper.

This disinformation has been republished by blognews.am with reference to armtimes.am. The same was reported by hayeli.am and operativ.am.

Nevertheless, it will not take much effort to reveal that this information is just a result of a wrong translation. When we go to the source of the information with the link to the Turkish media outlet, we can see that the Turkish ambassadors were not recalled from Moscow and Tehran. According to Daily Sabah, the Turkish Foreign Ministry invited Russian and Iranian ambassadors to Ankara in order to express their complaint related to the escalation of the situation near the Syrian-Turkish border during the recent days. With his statement made on January 10, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu demanded that Russia and Iran meet the commitments that they have undertaken as guarantor countries with regards to the Syrian issue.
