The lie about Serzh Sargsyan’s self-exclusion performed by Republican Party members (video)

About 4 years ago at the meeting with the members of the Constitutional Commission on Constitutional Reforms, Serzh Sargsyan gave guarantees to the commissioners that the latter act independently when drafting the new Constitution. As a major guarantee, Sargsyan assured that that if the commission decided that the country’s governance system should become parliamentary, he would not aspire to the position of the prime minister.

“I am convinced that in Armenia the same person should not aspire to be the leader of the country more than twice in his life.”-announced Sargsyan.

Following Sargsyan’s statement the Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly, RPA spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov clarified, “The noteworthy part is that Serzh Sargsyan excludes his nomination. This is Serzh Sargsyan’s self-exclusion.”

Former Minister of Justice Davit Harutyunyan announced in 2015 that the constitutional amendments have created a basis for a peaceful change of power. “One, who does not create a basis for a peaceful change of power, ends up with a forced change of power. These are not my words, it is a well-known saying,” said Minister Harutyunyan.

After all of this,however, the RPA activists began making linguistic analysis and insisted that Serzh Sargsyan did not say he was not going to be nominated, he said he did not aspire to run and that these are two different things. Whereas this year, in response to the question whose name was circulating during the discussions of possible candidates for prime minister, RPA spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov said that, “no other name has been discussed except for Serzh Sargsyan and there was no other opinion expressed”.
