The “Biological Weapons” Laboratory Receives Money from Russia As Well

On November 24 2016, the SUT.am website had addressed the Conference on “Medical and Biological Laboratories in Context of Armenia’s Security and Autonomy”, during which false information was given related to creation of US-funded biological weapons in Armenia.

In particular, it was announced during the conference that the reference laboratories opened in Yerevan, Gyumri and Ijevan in 2016 with the funding provided by US Department of Defense’s Defense Threat Reduction Agency can create biological weapons and use them against the Armenian population, which is Russia’s ally.

Their accusations referred to the “Reference Laboratory Center” of the “National Center for Disease Control and Prevention” SNCO of the RA Ministry of Health, which, according to the misinformation spread during the conference, is engaged in “developing a biological weapon intended for use against Russia”.

Revealing the absurdity of these allegations, we continued to investigate the topic and received a very interesting letter from the RA Ministry of Health.

According to the document, Russia provided 14 types of devices and equipment and laboratory furniture for the sanitary-chemical laboratory to the “Reference Laboratory Center” of the “National Center for Disease Control and Prevention” SNCO based on the agreement between Armenian and Russian Governments on provision of technical and financial assistance to Armenia within the framework of the country’s EAEU membership.

Besides, within the framework of the same agreement, 2 mobile laboratories equipped with modern equipment were provided to the “National Center for Disease Control and Prevention” SNCO for improvement of laboratory capacities related to especially dangerous infections (for carrying out field studies), and rapid response to outbreaks.

However, the speakers of the the Conference on “Medical and Biological Laboratories in Context of Armenia’s Security and Autonomy” and the representatives of media covering the event appear in a far more awkward situation in the light of the fact that the SNCO who they accuse of organizing a conspiracy against Russia, receives assistance from Russia as well.
