During his press conference a few days ago, Heritage party leader Raffi Hovhannisyan spoke about snap elections of Yerevan City Council to be held on September 23, announcing his candidacy for Mayor.
Besides, the latter also addressed recent domestic political developments related to second president Robert Kocharyan.
In response to a journalist’s question on his attitude regarding Robert Kocharyan’s announcement on returning to politics, Hovhannisyan noted, “Robert Kocharyan has the right to return wherever he wants, be it politics, or prison, or another place. It is not up to me to decide.”
The media dominantly covered this specific statement, at places in a distorted manner. For instance, iravunk.am website published a material with the headline “Kocharyan has the right to return where he wants to”, with Hovhannisyan’s photo attached.
Judging from the comments on the internet, this headline has misled many people. It is cut from context and distorts Hovhannisyan’s idea behind it.
