The October 14 Summit of the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) in Yerevan brought together the CSTO leaders, except Kazakhstan’s president Nursultan Nazarbaev. Instead, the country’s Prime Minister Bakijan Sagintaev replaced him around the presidential table.
Nazarbayev’s official note for the absence was the colds. According to official reports, the president was ill and was receiving treatment.
Ironically, when the same day at the meeting of the presidents of the CSTO member-states in Yerevan Serj Sargsyan wished Nazarbaev a fast recovery on behalf of him and other presidents, Nazarbaev immediately recovered.
On October 14 Kazakh President’s official website issued statements that Nazarbayev held working meetings with the Attorney General and the Mayor of Astana.
We inquired from Spokesman of Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tigran Balayan, to figure out how come Nazarbaev, denouncing his visit because of “illness”, turned out not be sick.
“We were sent an official note saying Kazakhstan will be presented by the Prime Minister, due to the president’s illness. As for the fact that Nazarbayev had working meetings that day, you’d better ask the Kazakh side,” – Balayan said, adding that perhaps the illness required no change of air and temperature.
Note that the temperature in Yerevan on October 14 was +24, while it was snowing in Astana, with +3 temperature.
If we add the fact of warm friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, it becomes clear that Nursultan Nazarbaev’s absence from CSTO Summit in Yerevan had nothing to do with his health.
