Information on army officers’ salary reduction false

“Iravunk” newspaper published an article titled “There is no money even for the army: Army officers’ salaries of have reduced” in today’s printed edition. The article says that the new government has reduced the salaries of civil servants and army officers.

“It turns out that the authorities have decided to reduce civil servants’  salaries in order to solve the challenges they face with regard to financing state institutions rather than reduce the number of civil servants. Moreover, the reductions may reach 40%. It should also be noted that salaries of army officers have been reduced as well, reaching the amount of salaries paid to civil servants”, the article reads.  

In order to verify this information, we contacted the spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense Artsrun Hovhannisyan, who denied the information. “It is groundless information,” Hovhannisyan replied in a laconic manner.

It is noteworthy that since its formation the new government has announced about the optimization of the state system and reduction of redundant positions. Civil servants’ salaries were envisaged to be raised with these particular steps.

Moreover, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan reiterated this idea during a talk with journalists after his meeting with Minister of Economic Development and Investments Artsvik Minasyan, saying “It is envisaged to increase salaries of civil servants”.
