Fact Investigation Platform studied the official messages released by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, starting from January, and revealed that 17 soldiers died in the Armed Forces in the first half of 2024 with only 4 of them killed as a result of the Azerbaijani attack.
The information about the first two deaths in the Armenian army was issued on January 9. The Ministry of Defense informed that on January 9, at around 11:30, the body of Senior Lieutenant Mikael Samvel Danielyan was discovered with a gunshot wound in the security station of the Military Unit N of the Ministry of Defense. On January 9, but around 06:20, the body of contract soldier Karen Arayik Karapetyan was discovered in the N combat installation of the security station of the N military unit of the Ministry of Defense, again with a gunshot wound.
A few days later, on January 13, in highly unfavorable weather conditions, on the way from the combat installation to the permanent location, the contact was lost with soldier B. M. of the N military unit of the RA MoD.
The next day, the Investigative Committee reported that the body of B.M. was discovered under the snow in the valley near the combat installation.
In February, death of two servicemen was recorded in the Armed Forces, one of them was a reservist. Thus, on February 6, at around 13:20, reservist Artur Varuzhan Grigoryan (born in 1985) died as a result of a fire that broke out under yet unknown circumstances in a cabin located next to the shelter of the combat installation of the Security station of the N military unit of the Ministry of Defense.
On February 24, the death of a conscript soldier was reported. According to the Ministry of Defense, on February 24, at around 17:55, Avag Daniel Zakaryan, a soldier of the N military unit of the Ministry of Defense, died under unknown circumstances (according to preliminary data, as a result of a gunshot wound).
No information about casualties in the army was reported during March.
A tragic accident took place on April 12, as a result of which 4 soldiers died. The Ministry of Defense informed that on April 12, at around 15:25, the “Ural” car carrying the servicemen of the N military unit of the RA Ministry of Defense left the roadway and appeared in the area of the nearby ravine under yet unknown circumstances.
The soldiers who died as a result of the accident were:
Areg Armen Kerobyan,
Slavik Vardan Vardanyan,
Davit Hambartzum Hakobyan,
Joseph Melkon Azolyan.
On May 7, the death of contract soldier Artak Seryozha Avalyan (born in 1985) was reported According to the Ministry of Defense, the body was discovered in the security station of the N military unit with a gunshot wound.
On May 26, Ararat Arami Aroyan, a soldier of the N military unit of the Ministry of Defense, received injuries incompatible with life under circumstances that have not yet been determined.
It was reported that despite the efforts of the hospital doctors, the serviceman’s life could not be saved.
On June 14, at around 08:20, the body of contract soldier Armen Gurgen Gasparyan was discovered with a gunshot wound in the security station of the N military unit of the RA Ministry of Defense.
The death of soldier Davit Nersisyan was reported on June 24. It was mentioned that on June 24, a report was received from the Sisian department of the Military Police of RA Ministry of Defense that on the same day, at around 10:00 a.m., Davit Vahan Nersisyan, a soldier of the N military unit of the RA Ministry of Defense, died. According to the report, while standing in line at the military unit, D. Nersisyan experienced a sudden deterioration of well-being and loss of consciousness, at around 9:40 a.m., in connection with which he was urgently taken to a military hospital, where, at around 10:00 a.m., the soldier’s biological death was recorded.
Casualties in non-peaceful conditions
In the first half of this year, 4 soldiers were killed in non-peaceful conditions on February 13, as a result of an Azerbaijani attack in the Nerkin Hand area. According to the Ministry of Defense, the following people were killed as a result of the fire of the Azerbaijani armed forces in the direction of the Armenian military installations located in the Nerkin Hand area:

Gagik Varazdat Manukyan (1982),
Arsen Gagik Hambardzumyan (1979),
Hrachya Talish Hovhannisyan (1957).
One soldier was injured.
Hasmik Hambardzumyan
